Neidong National Forest Recreation Area Neidong National Forest Recreation Area is a haven for frogs, so spring visitors can expect to be serenaded by their choral croaks. The forest spreads over a steep terrain ranging 230 to 800 meters at the place where the Nanshih and Neidong rivers meet. The river waterfalls, pools and shoals add to the scenic diversity of Neidong. There are also several good trails for walking and view pavilions to appreciate nature's charms amidst the invigorating anion-charged air and forest scents. A single 2.2-kilometer trail links to all of the scenic sites in the area, including the popular Wusha River and Neidong waterfalls. Luohao Dam, not far from the Wusha River Waterfall, is another scenic treat. The moist climate at Neidong supports many types of forest ferns, such as the Alsophila spinulosa, Asplenium nidus, and common tree fern. Begonia formosana also grow copiously along the trail.

Fushan Botanical Garden This 410-hectare branch of the Taiwan Forestry Research Institute is the largest botanical park in Taiwan. It is located on the boundary between Ilan County's Yuanshan Township and Taipei County's Wulai Township. The area includes 20 kilometers of self-guided trails, with interpretive plaques for visitors to use. The park was established to preserve the characteristic forest ecology of northern Taiwan; most of its plant cover consists of natural temperate-zone broadleaf forests, and there is a complex mix of local vegetation as well as numerous species of wildlife in the area. Prior application is required to visit the park, and the number of visitors is currently limited to approximately 300 per day. The purpose of this is to protect the natural ecology and allow the environment to continue relatively undisturbed.

Wulai Hotspring The hot springs of Wulai produce mineral water in abundance and were developed long ago; the very name Wulai, in fact, is said to have come from the Atayal aborigine word for "hot springs." The water is clear, colorless, and odorless; it is said that bathing in it keeps the skin moist, and that drinking it is effective against stomach problems. Wulai boasts the largest free-of-charge hot-spring area in Taiwan. It is especially popular in early spring, when red cherry blossoms fill the mountainsides so that visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery as they soak in the hot springs and bask in the romance of the Atayal aborigines.
